Recruitment Process

When you apply for a position online with Verve Energy, you will receive acknowledgement that your application has been received.

If you have applied for an advertised vacancy, your application is screened to determine if you meet the essential criteria of the role.

You may then be contacted for an initial telephone interview or be invited to attend a formal interview.

Verve Energy uses the Targeted Selection interview method (see the Interview Tips section for more information).  Formal interviews include questions relating to technical aspects of the job as well as questions relating to teamwork, safety, and other such attributes.

Verve Energy will conduct reference checks on preferred candidates so please provide the names and current contact details of two recent professional referees.

Preferred candidates will also be required to undergo a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol testing.

Completion of any or all of the above steps does not guarantee that an offer will be made.

How to apply

Verve Energy advertises vacancies on this website. Some roles are also advertised in major national or local newspapers or online job boards such as SEEK .

Please ensure you attach a resume (no greater than five pages) to your online application. Certificates/licences/qualifications do not need to be attached but should be brought to an interview if your application is progressed.

We encourage applications at any time from:

  • Qualified electrical and mechanical engineers - preferably with a power background; and
  • Electrical/instrument and mechanical technicians;
    especially from people who are interested in working at Muja Power Station, near Collie (see Useful information below).

Applications not in response to a specific advertisement, other than for the roles listed above, cannot be accepted.

Verve Energy encourages online applications for advertised roles.

Verve Energy is an equal opportunity employer, and welcomes and values diversity.

Interview tips

During the interview, we will be looking to assess your suitability for the role by reviewing your:

  • Qualifications;
  • Motivation;
  • Knowledge and experience; and
  • Behaviours.

We suggest that you prepare for a behaviourally based interview.  The premise of this method of interviewing is that “past behaviour predicts future behaviour”.

You will be asked to provide examples from your previous work or experience that indicates how you behaved in a certain situation.

You will need to clearly explain:

  • The situation – what were you asked to do?
  • Your action – what did you do to achieve the task or manage the situation?
  • The result – what was the outcome of your actions?

We will be looking for examples that are:

  • Recent – draw on your most recent experiences where possible.
  • Relevant – make the example relevant to the role you are applying for.

Good luck!
