National Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Release Date: 16 August 2006

Verve Energy agrees with the intent of the efforts of the WA Government and other States to manage Australia's CO2 emissions.

Carbon emission trading scheme such as that proposed by NSW appears to be a lowest cost mechanism for reducing emissions from power generation.  Therefore Verve Energy believes it has some merit compared with other options.

Verve Energy is a responsible member of the community and participates in a range of initiatives that manage these emissions.  For example, Verve Energy is active in the renewable energy sector.  The Bremer Bay wind-diesel energy system, about which the Prime Minister commented yesterday, is one of Verve Energy’s projects.    A number of other renewable energy projects are in the pipeline.

The contents of the hefty greenhouse gas emissions trading scheme discussion paper needs to be worked through thoroughly.  Verve Energy is doing that.
