CEO ANNOUNCEMENT

Release Date: 06 December 2005

Energy Minister Alan Carpenter has announced the appointment of Chief Executive Officers of the new businesses being established from the disaggregation of Western Power.

Heading up the new Generation business will be John Lillywhite.   Among the Generation business assets will be the Kwinana and Cockburn Power Stations.   Other power stations include the Muja and Collie Power Stations near Collie and the Pinjar gas turbine power station, north of Perth.

Currently General Manager Generation, John Lillywhite who joined Western Power in 1997, brings 25 years experience in utilities to his new role.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of establishing and leading a successful generation business in the new WA energy market,” Mr Lillywhite said.

“The new business will build on its deserved reputation for reliability of its power stations.

“Our generation capacity will be a diverse portfolio of 3000MW which will allow the retirement of older plant and improve the competitiveness of our new company in the evolving energy market.   We must get the best commercial and operational outcome from our 3000MW.

“Another significant challenge will be the right to generate overnight when there will be a small amount of load and other generators vying for that market.

“The focus of our participation in the market will be to ensure that we retain that overnight market and avoid the costs of stop-start operation of our baseload coal-plant especially the Muja and Collie Power Stations.

“Collie and Kwinana will be key communities for the new business, and we will be working closely with our partners and allies in these regions,” Mr Lillywhite said.
