Verve Energy has plans to increase Muja Power Station generating capacity.
Verve Energy’s CEO John Lillywhite said that by improving efficiency and reliability, and installing new technology, the two generating units in Stage D will be able to put-out an extra 54MW of electricity.
The upgrade work to cost about $30 million is scheduled for winter this year and is timed to coincide with the half-life refit maintenance program on Units 7 and 8.
“These are the two youngest units at Muja and the work we are carrying out will extend their operating life by about 20 years,” Mr Lillywhite said.
“The extra 54MW will take their combined output to 454MW and will increase the state’s generating capacity accordingly.
“By improving the performance of the plant, Verve Energy will be more competitive in the new wholesale electricity market in WA.”
Mr Lillywhite said that similar works to update equipment were planned on other generating units over the next four years.
“We will boost our competitiveness in the new electricity market with our 3000MW generation capacity.”
