The Verve Energy Collie Community Fund is one of many regional funds established under the trusteeship of Western Australian Community Foundation. The Western Australian Community Foundation is an independent organisation set up to strengthen WA communities by promoting philanthropic community-business partnerships.
Verve Energy’s Muja Power Station Manager, Hans Dopheide, said Verve Energy has been part of the community for more than 40 years, and this is an opportunity to give more to the community.
“Our focus is youth and the environment, however, other areas such as arts, sports and cultural events will be considered if the project involves the whole community,” said Mr Dopheide.
Chief Executive Officer, Western Australian Community Foundation, Tonia Swetman, congratulated Verve Energy in leading community support in the district by establishing the donation fund for Collie.
“A key ingredient in Verve Energy’s unique approach is the participation of its employees and the local community together, ensuring that the community’s needs are met now and into the future,” said Ms Swetman.
“The Verve Energy Collie Community Fund is the perfect vehicle to ensure that the local community benefits in perpetuity.”
As the founding donor, Verve Energy started the fund with a $30,000 contribution and will top it up each year with $10,000.
Verve Energy’s employees can contribute through automatic payroll deductions if they wish.
The advisory committee members are Hans Dopheide, Manager Muja Power Station; Sarah Stanley, representing the local community; Mark Sanders, carpenter and business owner; Grace Pears, retired community member; Wayne Sanford, Collie Shire President; Mick Murray, MLA; Mick Hill, maintenance superintendent at MPS; and Robert Cavanagh, general assistant maintenance at MPS.
The committee will work closely with Western Australian Community Foundation to decide which projects qualify for funding.
The Western Australian Community Foundation and Verve Energy invite community groups or organisations in the Collie area to apply for funding for a project or initiative which will benefit the community.
