Community focus on global warming, fossil fuel prices, and the sustainability of electricity supply has led to interest in ‘clean and green’ electricity. This has led to both domestic and international initiatives and proposed initiatives by government to reduce environmentally damaging emissions and enhance the opportunities for renewable technologies.
As a large consumer of fossil fuels, Verve Energy has both the opportunity and the responsibility to reduce the harmful greenhouse emissions of its electricity production.
Primarily, Verve Energy will work to improve the conversion efficiency from its existing generating portfolio thereby reducing the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere.
Verve Energy will also work to provide a sustainable electricity mix for the future. Verve Energy will continue to develop renewable energy technologies and expand its portfolio of renewable energy generators. Where cost-effective, Verve Energy will implement greenhouse emission reduction strategies within our existing generation portfolio. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of bio-fuels.
To enable commercial investment that will reduce harmful greenhouse emissions, Verve Energy supports the introduction of a carbon emission ‘cap and trade’ scheme that effectively values environment harm. Such a scheme will provide a clear carbon price signal for investment in technologies supporting both emission reduction and renewable energy.
Verve Energy will continue to promote renewable energy to the broader community and participate in the greenhouse policy debate.
