Bremer Bay End of Grid Wind & Diesel System

Electricity to Bremer Bay is supplied by a diesel-wind system made up of a 1.3 megawatt (MW) low-load diesel power station supporting a 660kW wind turbine .

The wind turbine provides on average 40% of the town’s electricity.  This reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 1100 tonnes a year and cuts diesel consumption by up to 400,000 litres a year.

This project is supported by the Australian Government through the Renewable Remote Power Generation Program. The Program is implemented by the State’s Sustainable Energy Development Office in Western Australia.

Verve Energy has similar diesel-wind projects operating successfully at Denham and Coral Bay on the mid-west coast and at Esperance and Hopetoun, both on the WA south coast.
