Muja Power Station, one of Verve Energy's biggest power stations, is situated 225 kilometres south east of Perth and 22 kilometres east of Collie. The coal-fired power station is capable of producing 854 megawatt (MW) of electricity or enough energy to power about 300,000 homes.
Following the post World War II period when WA electricity demand was increasing by 10% per annum, the decision was made to build Muja Power Station.
It was officially opened on 21 April, 1966.
Muja Power Station has two 200MW generating units and two 227MW units making up Stages C and D. The four smallest and least efficient units, Stages A and B, were closed in April 2007.
The coal-fired boilers C and D have their own ash precipitator which allows the ash suspended in the exhaust gases to be collected and removed.
Muja was officially opened on 21 April, 1966.
